What is Advertisement?


Advertisement are generally the powerful message through which customers get to know about the product and services. Powerful in a sense that can influence individuals to consume the product/service. Advertisement though being a message plays vital role to company's marketing. Just for an example you have a mobile phone that you don't need and want to sell. If you are not able to reach the message or communicate to anyone that you are selling your phone, how do you expect to sell the mobile. But if you just email or go up to someone saying that your phone is on sale then people would know and buy that phone. In the same way business are just communicating the message that they are selling the product.  It's just that their way of communicating is different. You can see tons of method of advertisement like celebrity endorsement, video ads, poster and banners on streets, images on news paper etc. That is all communication method of brands to reach their product to the customers.

Advertising now has become a vastly complex form of business communication and there are various forms of advertising in present context of modern world. Generally there are Commercialized advertisements and non commercialized advertisements, the advertisements with the view of promoting the consumption products/service and are profit motive, whereas Non commercial ads are made with the motives of public awareness. Apart from that advertising can be categorized in forms of advertising and they are as follows:

  • Digital advertising: The advertisements on the internet are forms of digital marketing. The banners and ads on every pages you visit or every social medias sites you visit.
  • Cell phone and Mobile advertising: It is similar to digital marketing, the ads can be viewed in various apps of the mobile that may be social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.
  • Print advertising: The various forms of print media advertisements like Newspaper, Poster, Pamphlets etc falls under the print advertising. The display of Audi car's advertisement in THE SUN is example of Print media advertising.
  • Broadcast advertising: The advertisement method through which it is targeted to reach the large customers. Use of Television and radio comes under the broadcast advertising.
  • Guerrilla advertising: The most unusual method of advertising comes under Guerrilla marketing and can be in any form but it is targeted to aware the large number of customers someway without disturbing them. For an example Painting cross walk in road to chips of McDonalds bucket is Guerrilla marketing.
  • Public Service advertising: The advertisements done to the welfare of the public as in making them aware rather than selling product and services.
  • Product Placement advertising: The act of advertising the product with association to any movies, events is product placement advertising. The advertisement for the business and income source for movie.

Despite being in various forms, advertisements serve one common purpose communication. Advertisement is a win win business to all the parties in advertising a product. For an example McDonalds advertises its burger in a newspaper let's say THE SUN to promote its burger by paying the hefty amount. Here now whoever reads THE SUN, someone sees about the burger of McDonald and buys the burger. So, The McDonalds get revenue from the customer buying burger, THE SUN gets revenue from the McDonalds and our customer gets burger that he/she wished for.

Advertisement plays vital role in company's growth and marketing of the company.
